No Alcohol Flights in the Air Transportation Industry

There’s a saying that alcohol is best consumed in cold weather. Plus, flying 36000 feet above sea level can be considered as cold—for some. Hence it’s a common thing that airlines give alcoholic drink service during their flights, mostly on international and long-haul flights. However, the fact that the coronavirus has crippled the air industry for the last three months has created a change in the alcohol drink services throughout flights. As reported by Forbes, some international airlines have started to get back on their feet again this June. Delta, American Airlines, KLM, EasyJet have begun their business, yet without an alcohol option, resulting in having non alcohol flights on all of its routes.

Reason behind it

The sole reason behind the no alcohol in flights is to help flatten the curve. Yep, with the face mask and reduce-the-direct-interaction requirements on every flight nowadays, it’s rather impossible to serve a glass of alcohol drink during some hours of flying. Most airlines now opt to give bottled water with a packed meal for each passenger.

Nevertheless, the rule is applied mostly on domestic flights that the airlines are offering. For example, American Airlines still continue to serve adult beverages in first-class and long-haul international flights. Likewise, Delta too will serve beer, wine, and hard liquor on international flights.

The others that have done it before

American and British-based airlines above indeed limit their alcohol drink service due to coronavirus. Netherland flagship airline KLM, nonetheless, stated that they will no longer carry alcohol. Though no further reason covered by Forbes. Along with this airline, apparently there were some airlines that have done it way before the pandemic happened.

Saudi Arabian Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Royal Brunei Airlines, EgyptAir, Iran Air, Gulf Air, as well as Bahrain Air are the airlines that do not serve alcohol since a long time ago. Quoted from Shawn Voyage site, these Islamic country airlines did so to follow the Islamic law.

If you happen to love the drink more than flying above mentioned airlines, you may look for a new carrier as your option—for the time being. You ay also consider some of the last airlines operating Boeing 747 jumbo jets. Do not forget to use a mask when flying, and stay healthy! (AP)
