Transportation will surely be one of the main necessity when we travel on a vacation, and renting a car can be a viable solution. Although in today’s time public transportation systems have become so much improved in many places, yet there are still many other locations which can only be reached by private vehicles. This makes renting out a car for personal use still becomes a viable option for many travelers as their vacation transportation. Renting a car for a few days will surely be a lot cheaper than t get taxi rides to go places during our vacation.
However, renting a car can also lead to a very expensive expense if we do not research about the car rent system at the destination beforehand. The following are some tips to rent a car easily, comfortably and affordably;
- Purchase the basic car rental package only, without the additional rider options offered by the rental company. Additional insurance may not be that necessary, and can drastically increase the rental package price.
- Use the maps function on your smartphone so you can save from using the optional satellite navigation system from the rental company, which can cost very expensive. The same goes for children’s seats if you travel with your kids. Buy your own seat elsewhere instead, or bring it from your house if the baggage cost is still reasonable.
- Thoroughly check the rental company’s terms and conditions. Some companies apply distance limitation and will charge you extra if you pass that limit. A few other companies even demand that you return the car with full gas in the tank after using it.
- Before taking you selected car out from the rental company’s parking garage, make sure that all the car’s damage that was acquired prior to you driving it has been accounted for in the company’s records. If the car has damages unreported in the records, you can possibly be charged for it when you return the car, even though it is actually not your fault.
Although the tips above seem cumbersome to do, they are better than paying more expensively than you should when renting a car on vacation. As in shopping or purchasing other services, we as customers should also exercise care so we do not incur unnecessary losses.
